some of mine:
If I am conscious of what I am doing, how can I tell the difference from knowing exactly my actions from what is impulsive? If I am aware of my instincts, what does it mean to be able to do something spontaneous?

If self-growth means to look within oneself, how will society affects who we are? Should society affect our "self" behavior and change our "self" behavior?

just some of my thoughts. do you have any answer to them? what are yours?

Even if you are conscience of what you are doing that doesn’t mean your able to stop the action once its in motion. Whether your not aware or not willing to look ahead enough to see the outcome doesn’t matter in affairs of the heart. The hearts behavior comes from past experience, the behavior is based on emotions from learned feelings or the gut feelings that come from experience that we aren’t aware of on a conscience level, these can come from past experiences that you were to young to remember or even past lives!

When emotions are driving you, they override the navigation system your mind provides and the hearts emotions move so fast that your mind doesn’t have time to take back control!
Self growth is exactly that…self growth…if that includes what you have learned from society and had allowed you to improve on yourself that’s great but if society is dragging your self awareness into a structure that takes away your personal thoughts needs or feelings then the society is having a negative affect and your self growth needs to include getting away from following society’s thoughts and getting to your true self’s needs!
EDIT-Thoughts about or even the understanding that what your doing isnt good for you isn’t always strong enough to stop the emotions that drive the actions. We have things we need to learn, our soul learns from the our actions….our heart drives our soul, so our heart will make us stumble so we can pick ourselves up and try again! Ever seen the analogy of the rock rolling down the hill and with every hit it takes the rough edges get worn down and broken off until the surface of the rock is smoother….that is our soul, and our heart keeps us rolling down the hill and our mind will try to navigate….and sometimes its good and we miss the bumps and sometimes our souls desire to learn, grow and evolve wont allow our mind to protect us and we take the hit even if we see it coming! Just my opinion, so don’t be too hard on yourself when you stumble because if you learn from it, you really haven’t lost more than you’ve gained.

i wonder if we have true soul mates or if all soulmates are just people we have karma with for good or bad and are these people chosen for you or if you can create karma with someone in an attempt to create better soulmates for your next lifetime….

I am asking about visualisation technique, auto suggestion, law of attraction etc.
People claim to have realised their dreams and overcome their odds by supposedly programming the subconscious mind.
Is it true?
Nonetheless, our thoughts can influence our moods and cause certain events. But altering the life and achieving great goals are influenced by many factors. So, how true is the notion of subconscious mind controlling our life?
How much is true?
Please share if you actually have any experience.

Thank you all.

I think it only can happen when you are asleep.
No one can alter their subconscious mind.
But a few people do go by what their dreams tell them.
Most times it doesn’t work as planned.

I’ve heard some people praise this to no end (usually mentioning Faulkner or Joyce or Wolf or etc.) and I’ve heard others absolutely hate this.

What are your thoughts on it? Do you like stream of consciousness? What are ways that you feel writers poorly convey this style?

Good question. When well done, it’s a great style of narrative. I like to think of Jack Kerouac as the epitome of stream of consciousness. His motto: "First thought, best thought." To make a passage feel like stream of consciousness is difficult, but to make it feel like it’s been improvised is nearly impossible.

When writers abuse stream of consciousness it’s usually because they haven’t fully established their characters and want an easy way to allow the reader into the character’s head. It can feel like cheating when this happens. Rather than developing their characters fully through action and description, they try to tell the reader who the person is through their thoughts/manner of thinking. This type of narrative is difficult and takes practice; an unpracticed SoC writer is easy to spot by how unbelievable and poorly conceived their characters thoughts seem.

And who says they don’t like stream of consciousness, anyway? It’s the dominant mode of narration, these days. I should think it would be hard to get around it.

Apparently your conscious mind processes a LOT less information. Can you train your subconscious to be useful to tasks at hand? Like math, reading, etc.

How could you do this?

Or is it that you have to train yourself to be so good at something that you no longer need your conscious mind to process the information?

May be that’s it…we train ourselves well enough at a task that we memorize the steps, then we know it, and it’s something we don’t forget (if it’s something we use or do all the time) like holding a pencil.
I like to draw, my mind remembers by seeing a picture- a snapshot. Do I subconciously know how to draw? At 3 I started and never looked back, it was so natural…what taught me? What teaches anyone? I believe we all have God given gifts of all shapes and sizes, and somewhere within us is the capacity to know far more than we think we already think we know, but don’t really know. Not by a long shot.
