Why is it important to understand human consciousness?
A question popped up on my Psychology midterm study guide, and I don’t exactly know how to answer it; it seems rather vague. How would you answer this?
"Discuss the importance of understanding human consciousness and its variations."
short answer would be: if you don’t understand how human consciousness manifests, you don’t know the signals that people are giving out in their actions and will be a poor judge of motives of others and yourself. also, you won’t know why different people have different thinking patterns due to what they have been exposed to that naturall seeps in every person’s consciousness by non visible osmosis.
if a person wants to retain positive relationships with others, they need understanding of the behaviors of others when under stress or excitement or whatever. can’t know any of this without understanding the difference between human and other forms of life’s consciousness’.
if going into any field that requires intimate (not meaning physical) contact with others, you are better able to integrate into the group and express your ideas and opinions without others feeling you are being judgemental or pushy. its quite complex. i would read a bit on it before you give an answer.i would imagine your teacher or professor has shown the different forms of human consciousness in the reading etc that he/she has assigned you.
the first paragraph is the short answer, but i don’t think there is one.
